I feel like a total zombie as I walk up the stairs and make my way down the hall to my room. Maybe it's because of the emotional train-wreck of a night I had, or maybe it's because it's so late the sun is starting to rise. Regardless, I'm exhausted.

Slipping my key into the lock, I try to be as quiet as possible, but Kennedy wakes up anyway as soon as I step inside. She looks at me strangely before rubbing her eyes and checking the time on her phone.

“Did you just get home?” she asks.

I swallow down the lump in my throat. “Uh, yeah.”

She sits up and turns her light on. “What the—? Have you been crying?”

“A little?”

“A little? Your whole face is puffy.” She scrambles up from her bed and opens her arms in an invitation for her to hold me. “Did he hurt you? Because I'll rip his dick off with my bare hands. I might be little, but I swear, I'm scrappy.”

I chuckle softly at the idea, but shake my head. “I don't even know where he is. He ran off when the cops asked us to get out of the car.”

“The cops?” The shock in her tone is evident.

I nod. “I got arrested. Possession with the intent to distribute.”

“Oh my God, Amelia!”

“I didn't even know there were drugs in the car, Ken,” I start to cry once again. “And he just left me there. One of the officers took off after him, but he was too fast.”

She sighs and pulls me closer. “I'm so sorry, babe. That must have been terrifying.”

“It was,” I confirm.

As if she didn't realize it before, I feel as she smiles. “Whose hoodie is that? And how did you get home?”

I roll my eyes, already knowing where she's going with this. “Zayn. I tried calling Easton, but he was asleep, and Z answered.”

“And he went in the middle of the night to go bail you out of jail?”

“I know, I know. He's fifty times the guy Blade will ever be,” I sigh. “Too bad he'll never be mine.”

She doesn't press that topic, even though it looks like she wants to. “So, what are you going to do?”

I stand up. “The only thing I can do. I need to break up with him.”

She exhales in relief. “I think that's for the best, babe. I'm proud of you.”

“Thanks. I'm going to go take a shower though,” I tell her. “Being in jail made me feel disgusting.”

Yawning, she nods and lies back down. “I'm falling back asleep, but if you need me, wake me up.”

I go to answer her, but before I can, she's already passed out.
